South Africa 2021 poaching stats

The South African Government just released the latest poaching statistics for 2021.

A devastating 451 rhinos were killed by poachers between January and December. This figure is the first time in six years that poaching has increased in the country, a worrying change. We sincerely hope this isn’t a marker for what’s to come.

Thankfully, 451 remains more than 20% lower than 2019, showing that the overall trend in poaching is a continued decline and that the Covid-19 pandemic likely had a major impact on the 2020 poaching stats.

We’ll share more news on this on the main news page of our website soon.
