London Marathon 2025
The London Marathon is the world’s largest annual fundraising event, attracting more than 40,000 participants every year. In 1992, our rhinos first took part in this incredible event and 33 years on, we’re so excited to once again be on the start line in 2025! On the famous 26.2-mile route, you’ll see the sights, soak up the atmosphere and help us save all five species of rhino that call this world home.
It is our favourite day on the calendar. Not only do we get to see incredible supporters tackling an awesome challenge, but we also get to meet you in person and thank you for making a difference to the world’s rhinos, whilst seeing a few of our iconic rhino costumes cross over London’s famous Tower Bridge!
Each member of our team usually raises at least £2,000. This fundraising helps to cover the costs of your place in the marathon and contributes to important rhino conservation activities.
JOIN US WITH A CHARITY PLACE
With more than 50 Gold Bond places and several ballot participants, our crash is one of the largest teams for a small charity like us and we are incredibly grateful to have such a fantastic fundraising team. Each and every one of our supporters is helping to make the world a better place for rhinos.
Our team is now full, but places may become available as the runners drop out due to injuries etc.
If you are interested in joining the crash, complete our application form below, and we will put you on the waiting list.

HOW YOU CAN SAVE RHINOS
Your fundraising will make a difference for rhinos in Africa and Asia. Here are a few of the ways that you could make a difference:
- £50 could purchase a good quality waterproof jacket, keeping rangers warm and dry
- £100 may help pay for a public awareness event to reduce the demand for rhino horn products in Vietnam
- £1,000 could provide vital medical treatment for rhinos, including snare removal or caring for an orphaned rhino calf
SUPPORTING OUR CRASH
As part of our London Marathon crash, our team will support you throughout your marathon journey, to the finish line and beyond. We will provide you with:
- A fundraising pack to help both new and experienced fundraisers kickstart their campaign and achieve their target
- A folder full of fundraising resources from event posters and bunting to a marathon finish time sweepstake
- A welcome pack with a copy of our annual magazine, a pin badge and wristband to showcase your support, a training plan and sponsorship forms
- A branded Save the Rhino running t-shirt
- In-person and online team evenings to get to know other members of the herd and Save the Rhino staff
- Bookable video calls for individual fundraising support
- An invitation to our post-marathon celebration camp with food, drinks, sports massages and a photographer to capture your finish line moment!
BECOME A RHINO CELEB!
Ready to take on a bigger challenge? Why not take part in the marathon in one of our iconic rhino costumes!
Our costumes are a familiar sight to the millions of people who watch the London Marathon each year. Around 17 runners complete the marathon in costume, often saying they feel like celebrities along the route. Our rhino celebrities receive extra cheers and attention from the crowd and are regularly asked for press interviews on the day.
With the added challenge and celebrity-status of a costume, those taking on the London Marathon as a rhino usually raise £2,500.
HEAR FROM OUR PAST PARTICIPANTS
Don’t just take our word for it, here’s what previous members of our team had to say…
Chris ‘Rhino Boy’ Green – “For me it’s been a 15-year journey since running my first ever Marathon dressed in the iconic costume at the London Marathon in 2009. I’ve now run 101 marathons as a rhino, doing everything possible to raise awareness to their plight.”
Kenneth Donaldson – “Running London in a rhino suit is the closest I’ve ever come to being a Rockstar – the crowds were amazing, the noise of the people screaming and cheering as the rhino came around the corner – is something I’ll never forget. From the start line to the amazing finish on the Mall, running in the suit is something you’ve just got to experience.”
Kellie Clark – “I had run the London marathon previously and had seen the iconic Rhino’s and never dreamed that one day I could be lucky enough to be part of team Rhino and be running inside one of the costumes. When you choose a charity to fundraise for you have to pick something close to your heart, it makes reaching the fundraising target and asking friends and family for donations so much easier. Being accepted onto the Save the Rhino team was incredible and it’s now a big part of who I am and I can’t imagine not being on the team now. A big rhino-sized thank you to Melanie, Vasily and the whole of the Save the Rhino team”
