Give as You Earn
By making a regular contribution through your payroll, you can give more to charity in a tax efficient way. For example, if you donate £10, only £8 comes out of your salary and the taxman pays the rest. Or if you're on a higher tax rate (40%), only £6 comes out of your salary and the taxman pays the rest. Payroll giving (Give As You Earn, GAYE) is great because:
- Regular donations come from your salary before tax.
- For a basic rate tax-payer every pound given only costs you 80p – even less for higher rate taxpayers.
- Save the Rhino can plan our activities sustainably, knowing we’re getting regular donations.
- You are better able to keep track of your giving too.
Setting up a scheme is easy, and the costs are minimal, it is available to everyone who pays UK income tax and is employed by a UK organisation. If you would like to sign up for payroll giving (via Charities Aid Foundation), simply fill in the payroll giving form and hand in to your HR department. We would be grateful if you could let us know that you have set up GAYE by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
