Rhino Trek South Africa 2012

6-13 May

Spend a week with Save the Rhino for a trekking challenge through some of South Africa’s most beautiful game reserves.....

Location: Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Duration: 5 days of trekking; 8 days in total
Distance: Average distance of 18kms/day (mountainous savannah terrain)
Group size: 8 participants per group plus two guides

In the heart of the Kingdom of the Zulu, at the foothills of the Lebombo Mountains our journey will start. Our route, especially and exclusively designed for Rhino Trek South Africa, will take the trekking groups through some of South Africa's most stunning game reserves. As well as rhino, all these reserves also host various other big game such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe and hippo; not to mention being a birding “hotspot” with over 350 species present in this area.

With five days of trekking through these reserves, and camping under the stars, you can be assured of a true African experience and that you will be able to get up close and personal with some of the most amazing creatures to walk, swim and fly our planet.

You will cover nearly 100kms in five days, trekking your way through savannah and the rolling mountains of this area. Participants must be capable of walking for up to eight hours per day in mild but humid conditions.

A few words from Rhino Trek South Africa previous participants:

“It was food for my soul”

“It was the most amazing experience - when can I come again??”

“Whether it was the trekking buddies, amazing and knowledgeable guides (the dust on a London pavement is not quite the same!), the school visit with those happy smiley faces, perfectly arranged logistics (that fire was very welcome at the end of each day, as well as everything else), suppers, breakfasts and lucky packets to die for, and the shower .......... what more can I say.”

“It was unbelievable, fantastic, you have just got to do this trek again!!!!”

“The organisation was spot on, not only for the 5 day trek but the pickups, dropoffs, accommodation, food, talks and game drives not forgetting that special Zulu dance at Leopard's Lodge, what a way to finish.”

“Thank you for a wonderful trip of a lifetime”

“Wildlife - Absolutely incredible!  9 rhino spottings in total on foot including 3 black rhino which is so much more than what I was expecting.  This with the impala, nyala, kudu, warthogs, daiker, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and countless birds was awesome.  For the animals we didn't get to see on foot such as elephants, large cats, hyena, etc we were lucky enough to see on the game drives in HIP so that was brilliant.”

“I would have paid treble the amount to experience the journey we went through, if not more!”
